| 01.04 - LIDL & ALDI build 3D cards |
| This morning I got a very
surprising E-Mail. The supermarket stores ALDI and LIDL will sell their very own 3D cards!
I was able to get hands on the new packshots of these cards:
The first card is the LIDL GROUNDMEAT V770. This card is bundled with a pretty set of flowers! ALDI builds the RAZOR II, bundled with 4 Donuts and a special razor. You can get them at 1.April. Thanx to LIDL and ALDI for the images ;-) |

| In the following you can see a
3D-Screenshot from a game using ELSA 3D
Revelator.
Every eye has its own image. These are displayed !one after another! The eye that shall not see anything is darkened by the shutter glasses. This is synchroniced with the refreshrate of the Monitor. With this you get a real 3D impression because human get their stereoscopic seeing through the distance of the two eyes. The human brain calculates the depth impression from the two different points of view. This is what 3D Revelator does: It moves the point of view of the camera in a game for every eye.
You can influence the depth effect with a tool, that can be accessed with a shortcut in every game. ELSA also gives a tool to make 3D screenshots out of a game. These can be viewed later with a ELSA tool. Product information |

chipset: NVIDIA 3D GRAPHICS PROCESSOR SETS NEW STANDARD FOR PC MARKET New RIVA TNT2 First to Deliver Best Performance and Visual Quality SANTA CLARA, CA - MARCH 15, 1999-- For the fourth consecutive season, NVIDIA(TM) Corporation (Nasdaq:NVDA) announced today the fastest 3D graphics processor for the mainstream market, the RIVA TNT2(TM). This new offering from NVIDIA sets a new standard for performance and quality by combining best-of-class 3D and 2D performance with 32-bit true color rendering, 32-bit Z-buffer and a 32MB frame buffer. The TwiN Texel Architecture, combined with per-pixel mip-mapping precision, offers an unprecedented fill rate of up-to 350 million pixels-per-second, which is twice that of the nearest competitor. The RIVA TNT2 also has the ability to render up to 10 million triangles per second which allows developers to write standards based applications with stunning visual effects. "NVIDIA has redefined performance and quality standards for all desktop PCs," said Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO of NVIDIA. "With our full featured family of performance 3D graphics processors, we are uniquely positioned to dominate the entire range from the basic PC to the performance PC." NVIDIA is the only graphics processor vendor to leverage benefits of the .25 micron process to its fullest, giving them a graphics accelerator that exceeds even Intel's Pentium III processor in terms of gate complexity. Combining this new performance level with the superior visual fidelity from the 32-bit rendering, the special effects made possible by the 32-bit Z-buffer and a 32MB frame buffer, delivers the ultimate 3D experience to the end-user who demands the best quality graphics for entertainment, education, business and e-commerce applications. "NVIDIA has shown continued growth in market share and an ability to hit the windows needed by the OEMs," said Dr. Jon Peddie, president Jon Peddie Associates (Tiburon, CA) a market research firm that tracks digital media technologies. "Our research shows the market for 3D controllers grew to over 88 million units in 1998 and NVIDIA's growth rate exceed the market's." Customers developing RIVA TNT2-based graphics cards include: ASUS, Canopus, Diamond Multimedia, ELSA, Guillemot, Hercules and Leadtek, with more add-in-card and Tier one OEM announcements to come. About the RIVA TNT2 Targeting the mainstream performance PC market, RIVA TNT2-based boards will feature a 300MHz RAMDAC and 32MB of RAM and will support resolutions beyond HDTV and as high as 2048x1536x32bpp at 60hz. The RIVA TNT2 architecture is NVIDIA's fourth-generation, integrated, 128-bit 3D processor. The RIVA TNT2's 32MB frame buffer, 32-bit color pipeline and 32-bit Z-buffer delivers unsurpassed quality and performance. The RIVA TNT2 is the fastest 128-bit accelerator with Digital Flat Panel support, AGP 4X and AGP 2X support. The RIVA TNT2 meets all the requirements of the mainstream PC graphics market and Microsoft's PC98, PC99 and all DirectX 6.0 initiatives. In addition to DirectX support, the RIVA TNT provides full support for an OpenGL(TM) ICD (Installable Client Driver) for Windows 95 and Windows NT. Delivering the industry's fastest Direct3D(TM) acceleration, leadership VGA, Directdraw and Video performance allows the RIVA TNT2 to power a growing range of 3D applications, including the hottest 3D games and full screen DVD playback. Pricing and Availability The RIVA TNT2 graphics processor will be priced at $45.00 US, in 10,000 unit quantities. The RIVA TNT2 is in production this quarter.
