| 18.08 - Gigabyte Mainboards in Problemen |
| Gigabyte expanded its warning about the
usage of some graphic cards in older revision Gigabyte Motherboards. Free RIVA Station
Translation: Here an aczualized news about graphic cards. The new revisions of Gigabyte-Mainboards that are allready available (Please ask your PC-Seller) can be used with a Voodoo3 card. Older revisions of Mainboards with BX, LX, GX and - not confirmed at all - ALi chipset canīt handle the amount of power a Voodoo3 needs to work. We now know that there are also problems with the ELSA ERAZOR III and Guillemot MAXI GAMER XENTOR in older revisions of the named Mainboards. Like Voodoo3, these cards do also need too much power. Guillemot released a patch to fix that problem - please ask Guillemot for additional information. I think there is also a problem with other TNT2 cards. I got numerous e-mails from users that have problems to get a Gigabyte/TNT2 combination to work. So if you buy a Graphic card/Maiboard combination ask your PC-Dealer if it works together (and if you can give it back if it doesīnt)! |

| 13.08 - Hardware T&L |
| In Voodooextemes ask
Hook Brian Hook was asked about Harware Transformation and
Lighting calculation that will come soon with NVIDIA new NV10: What's the deal with T&L that's done onboard and how they are used by API's. IE: for a game to use of onboard T&L extensions in OpenGL does it need to specifically be written to make use of those OpenGL extensions? Or does OpenGL figure that out already and the 3d card manufacturer just has to include it in their OpenGL driver? If you could fill us all in with a little more on onboard T&L info that would kick ass. Read the answer here. |
| 13.08 - Neue ASUS Beta Treiber |
| ASUS released new Beta drivers for the
V3400/V3800. The v2.09 Beta1 drivers now also support the VR-Mode page flipping besides of
line flipping. A quick explanation: To produce an real 3D image you need to generate an
own image for every eye. Your brain 'gernerates' the depth information from the
differences in the perspective of the images (Like in real through the distance of your
eyes). The line flipping technology uses the even and odd lines of your screen to differ the images. The one eye only sees the odd lines, the other only the even lines. Disadvantage: black horizontal line in the image, an interlace effect. Advantage: quite fast. The page flipping technology uses the back- and front-buffer of the graphics card (memory areas) to switch between two whole images. Disadvantage: Slow, more ghosting effects. Advantage: Very good quality. The shutter glasses always take care that your eyes always see the 'correct' image You can get the new driver here: ASUS V2.09 Beta1 Release Notes: 1. | 11.08 - NVIDIA v2.17 |
I got hands on new NVIDIA
reference drivers from an israelian guy called Ehud. Old versions of the NVIDIA Detonator
drivers had problems with the hebrew enabled version of Windows 98. The new v2.17 drivers
fix that problem (and maybe others). The OpenGL performance did nor change in this
release:
High Quality and Normal are GFX-settings in Quake3 You can download the 2MB package (AGP+PCI) here. PowerUser sends a mail that there are v2.25 Detonator drivers available: Detonator v2.25. But these drivers seem to be older than v2.17, although they have a higher number! The hebrew bug for example is not fixed in v2.25!! The date of the files is also older! Caution: This is not an official NVIDIA release!!!!! Use this driver on your own risk!!!!!! |
| 11.08 - New ASUS V3800 drivers |

I started a IRC Channel called #rivastation (IRC-Net). There you can chat with other RIVA
Station visitors by using a IRC Sofware like mIRC. Iīm also testing a JAVA IRC client to get the chat to my

| 09.08 - ASUS VideoCodec |
| ASUS uses its own videocodec to capture Videos with a V3400/V3800. But this codec is only available at Win9x with ASUS drivers. If you use Windows NT or reference drivers you canīt play captured Videos anymore. A small fix can help you out. Christian Bitschl has send me a registry key that allows you to play these AVIīs in Win NT. I made a small system.ini entry to get this to work in Win9X with other than ASUS drivers. You only have to copy the dll-file included in the ZIP file to the windows/system(32) directory. Watch Readme! ASUS VideoCodec for all |
