Slashdot has a information about XFree86 3.3.3 and NVIDIA. It speaks that NVIDIA insisted to withdraw two source files from the driver that they had supplied to them and replace some other source files with versions that were partly run through the C preprocessor. NVIDIA states that they decided to modify some of their source to protect intellectual property, something that was not taken kindly by the XFree86 Project. You find the complete article here.

    03.12 - Grandmaster B. about CPU Scaling

Grandmaster B. takes a look at the problems of scalability of 3D accelerators. He explains that a accelerator card should unburden the CPU, to perform well with slower CPUīs. But if you do so youīll have a bottleneck if the CPU getīs faster because the 3D chip is the limitating factor.
The reason for the limit Iīve found at TNT Scaling: PII 450MHz vs PII 333MHz is not found yet. It may be the fill rate of the TNT chip or the onboard-memory. With growing resolution you have a increase of data: At 1024x768 you have 768KB of Pixeldata , thatīs 2,5 more than at 640x480.

03.12 - New Creative GB Windows NT drivers
Creative Labs released new Windows NT drivers for the Graphics Blaster Riva TNT: Graphics Blaster Riva TNT drivers
01.12 - New NVIDIA TNT reference drivers

You can read at PlanetRIVA that NVIDIA released new RIVA TNT referencedrivers Version 0.48. The following problems are fixed:

1. Unreal -- several visual artifacts are corrected, including a "rainbow" effect on some textures. There are still someTexture downloading performance issues that we are working on, but this is a significant improvement.
2. Descent3 demo -- texture problems are corrected.
3. Rogue Squadron from LucasArts -- W-buffering problems are corrected.
4. 3D Studio MAX 2.5 -- fixes possible freeze of desktop, better wireframe drawing, fixes miscellanious crashes when selecting objects
5. Multigen Creator 2.2 -- textured object performance dramitically faster
6. Caligari TrueSpace 4.0 -- occasional crashes fixed
7. Solidoworks 98 -- fixes some rendering anomolies
Also, users who run 3DStudio MAX 2.0 and higher will see significant changes in terms of look and performance

Armin Lenz of VoodooNation made an article comparing AMDīs K6-2/350 and PII-333/450. Heīs searching for the reasons for the difference between K6-2 and PII and shows where you can reach limitations of the PC architecture. Read teh article here.

    01.12 - Descent3 Demo

The demo-version of Descent3 is released. There might be some problems with TNT drivers in D3D as you can hear. Screenshots at RIVA 3D show that it works fine using OpenGL. I didīnt test the demo yet so I canīt tell you more about these problems.

    29.11 - TNT scaling: PII 333MHz / PII 450MHz

NVIDIAīs RIVA 128 scaled very good with the CPU in the past. But what about the RIVA TNT?
I made a couple of benchmark runs and compared the results of a PII 333MHz with a 450MHz PII CPU. A small comment here: The results make me sober. But more of that in the article:
CPU-Comparsion: PII 450MHz vs PII 333MHz.
