Hints fot the installation
and handling of ASUS V3400 drivers
I saw in my discussion board that people have
problems wit their ASUS V3400 and drivers v1.01. So I made a small list with points you
should pay attention at:
- If you had nVIDIA reference drivers v0.41 or
v0.48 installed on your system before you install the ASUS drivers you get a info that a
newer file exists and if it should be overwriten. You MUST overwrite
these files. It does also work if you donīt overwrite these files but you have a drivers
mix then. One consequence is that you have 4-8 centimeters sized borders in TV-Out (normal
are small 1cm). You also can recognize that drivers mix on a wild signal on your TV even
if TV-Out ist disabled. With ASUS drivers the image on TV should be black when TV out is
disabled!
(These problems result in the fact that ASUS uses the same file names and registry
folders than nVIDIA reference drivers. Other manufactorers use their own filenames and
folders. But these canīt use the nVIDIA controll freak settings when using these drivers
as you can do with ASUS drivers!)
- Biosversion. If you have a slot1 system, a
intel Pentium II or intel Celeron, you should use the older Bios version v14. In v16, ASUS
disabled the AGP feature sidebanding. Reason for that were some incompatible Super Socket
7 boards for AMD K6-2. If you own such a board try the v14. If 3D graphics does not work
correct try the v16 Bios. You can see the performance difference in this 3DMARK99
benchmark table: v14 vs v16 Bios.
You can find the older Bios v14 here or at the german pages webhilfe.de.
- Overclocking - You can overclock your
V3400 with the ASUS drivers. The steps you have to do for that can be found in the article
ASUS-Turbo.
- Encoder Chip - The V3400 has a Chrontel 7003
PC to TV encoder chip onboard, like it is on the Spectra 2500. Messages that speak of a
BrookTree chip are wrong. A BrookTree chip, the Bt869KRF, is used on the STB Velocity 4400
and Diamond Viper V550 with TV-Out. But this BrookTree Chip has nothing comon with other
chips like Bt848 that can be found on TV tuner cards.
- What chip is responsible for TV-In? Letīs
take a look in the cardīs manual:

As you can see, the Chrontel is only for TV-out,
and the Phillips chip above is used for TV In functions.
I hope it helps you a bit :)
