Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 64MB - KYRO II (10/15)

MDK2 (OpenGL + HW Lighting)

Pentium 4 1500MHz - 16Bit Color Depth

Pentium 4 1500MHz - 32Bit Color Depth

The lack of a T&L unit on the Prophet 4500 really shows here, since the game offloads all the lighting onto the hardware. On a non-T&L board, the CPU has to take on this task as well. It is therefor hardly surprising to see the Kyro II lag so far behind. The Prophet is only able to catch up when the RADEON and MX start hitting their memory bandwidth limit, taking advantage of its tile-based rendering technique. Nonetheless, it is unable to reach the GTS. We see this ranking repeated in 32Bit color, except that the Kyro II is able to take first place in the very high resolutions.

Athlon 1200MHz - 16Bit Color Depth

Athlon 1200Hz - 32Bit Color Depth

We see the same situation on the Athlon system. Yet the Athlon seems to be faster at hardware lighting than the P4. At 800x600, the 3D Prophet 4500 is a full 10 frames faster than on the P4 system. Then again, even the T&L cards reach visibly higher scores on the Athlon, so probably this game engine likes the Athlon.
