CeBit 2000 and online-mags

This yearīs CeBIT was very stressy even before it began - for me and many other online-mags. The reason was the strange politics of the Deutsch Messe AG to not giving away press access for www sites. I ordered a press access for CeBIT in early january and everything went fine. But later in the month they canceled the access without any comment. I received a fax later on where they showed that they donīt see online-mags as serious as printed magacines and wonīt give any press access to CeBIT for us guys. The big boys of Tomīs Hardware and The Register had the same problems! But their massive critics and engagemnent on this issue helped at the end - we got our press access (like all little school magacines before). Damn, it seems Germany is still a WWW developing country.

Whatīs new?

There arenīt many 3D grapics related news this year. Only 3dfx and ATi showed new products. This years CeBIT was deticated in Networking and Telecommunication (yes, these small black things that get on your nerves and which will soon be able to cook spaghetti). I heared many rumors and I was also able to make some pretty images of some "secret" products like this INTEL I815 based mainboard on the left.

I heard later on that ATi gave out some news under NDA about their new T&L capable Rage6c 3D chip. But itīs NDA... so I would have to kill you if I tell you something ;-) (No joke!)

Time was a critical factor in the first two days so I couldnīt talk with Matrox and Diamond at all. Everybody wanted to make dates in the first two days to escape the mass-visitors which arrived from Saturday on. Iīll try to get some infos later.

But now letīs start with the report.
