NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX - The new mainstream card (6/9) Benchmarks: Quake 3
Quake3 Arena is one of the most demanding games around as far as videocards are concerned. It has partial T&L support under OpenGL and frequently uses multitexturing. When set to 32bit High Quality setting, trilinear filtering is used. Q3A Normal Settings We can see the MX inch ahead of the Erazor X, if not by much. The DDR seems untouchable at first, but the higher the resolution, the smaller its lead. The MAXX is just behind the GF256SDRAM, an admirable result considering its lack of a T&L unit. The G400 MAX falls behind dramatically. The Overclocked MX is able to take the lead, quite unexpectedly. Q3A High Quality Settings In 32bit-color the MX has to cede its place to the GF256SDRAM - an interesting but so far inexplicable phenomenon. The MAXX garners a 2-5 fps lead over the MX while the GF256DDR takes the uncontested lead thanks to its memory throughput. Overclocking still doesn't let the MX close the gap to the GF256DDR here. |
