GeForce2: Duo Deluxe (1/12)

Die Deluxe Klasse

Speaking of: Scart adapters

Usually, when connecting your PC to a TV or a VCR, you'll need to use a scart adapter. If possible, buy one that allows you to change the direction the video signal is traveling via a switch (i.e. to or from the TV). That way all you have to do to change between Video-In and Out is use the switch and change the input on the card instead of using two cables.

Some people just want a good 3D card, but others need more – TV-Out, for example. How about watching a DVD on your big-screen TV if you don’t have a player. Or how about a TV-In, to record the best parts of your favorite TV show? Or to watch the latest episode of, say, Ally McBeal while working on your newest article or chatting with a friend? (Any similarities to persons living or dead are pure coincidence…err, really…I would never…ahm, you didn’t think I – anyway).

Recently, good drivers, 3D shutter glasses or simply a good cooling solution and consequently higher overclockability have become strong selling points for cards as well. Many people are willing to pay a premium price for these features or extras. So today we’ll take a look at two of these "luxury" class cards: The ASUS AGP-V7700 Deluxe and the AOpen PA256 Deluxe.

While ASUS claims the crown for most features and extras by shipping their card with 3D shutter glasses and a TV-In/Out solution, AOpen, still relatively unknown in Germany, takes first place for innovations with its OpenBios.

Both of these 32MB DDR boards are powered by NVIDIA’s GeForce2 GTS chip, so our contestants should lie pretty close together where 3D performance is concerned. The only influencing factor should be the driver version used. Not all manufacturers are able to keep up with the deluge of reference drivers that have been released throughout the last couple of months. Consequently, some companies take longer to release new versions of their drivers than others, also depending on the features of their product.
