Test: Leadtek WinFast GeForce 2 PRO (11/14) Overclocking
If you want to overclock your card, you'll have to clear some obstacles first. Leadtek's WinFox tool doesn't support the GeForce 2 PRO chip yet. Any attempt to overclock the chip, no matter how small the increment, led to a system crash. Instead you need to enable the overclocking options hidden in the Detonator 3 Menu through a registry hack. After that, you're free to overclock (with v6.xx drivers).
My review sample was able to reach incredible speeds. During testing it hit 230 MHz (core) and 470 MHz (memory) without trouble. It would have gone even higher, but after a certain point, performance seems to decrease again instead of increase further, and that would be missing the point... Overclocking - Evolva As was to be expected, the overclocked WinFast PRO pulls ahead of the GeForce2 Ultra. Overclocking - Quake 3 Demo001 We can observe the same trend in Quake. Leadtek claims that my sample was a plain retail board, not a "golden" reviewer board. Since I have no way to prove or disprove this, I'll just give Leadtek the benefit of the doubt and believe that. If it turns out that every WinFast Pro is going to be able to overclock as high as mine, then those manufacturers selling Ultras are going to have to come up with a new sales pitch. Then again, the Ultra can overclock even beyond the reaches of the PRO.... |
