Boards using T&L enabled chips have a great advantage in MDK2. Unlike Quake3, which can only profit from Hardware Transformation, MDK2 also supports hardware lights. In the case of the Voodoo 5, the CPU has to take on the extra work, resulting in decreased performance. Alternatively, you could turn off the hardware lights and play with lower visual quality. The fillrate only starts to influence the results in the high resolutions. The WinFast PRO and the Ultra are in a league of their own.
32Bit color gives us more of the same. This time the RADEON is able to pull ahead of the V5 and the MX. It still can't touch the GTS – not to mention the WinFast PRO, which is hot on the heels of the Ultra. |
