Test: Leadtek WinFast GeForce 2 PRO (8/14)

Quake 3 v1.17 (OpenGL) - Demo001

Quake 3 is widely regarded as one of the most important (gaming) benchmarks around. Many reviewers use it as a sole criterion of OpenGL performance – which I believe is a mistake.

Overall we see few surprises here. In the very high resolutions the WinFast PRO falls more and more behind the Ultra but retains its comfortable lead over the 32MB GTS. The relatively low performance of the RADEON, a DDR based card, rather took me aback: it ranks behind the (SDRAM based) MX. The ATi drivers are pretty bad in 16Bit.

Again, the only real contenders in this race at 32bit are the big GF2 based cards. They lead the rest of the pack, including the GTS, by a comfortable margin.
