Max Payne Benchmarks (1/2)

3D Center released a mod for Max Payne yesterday which allows you to run benchmark tests in Max Payne. It comes with 4 different benchmark scenes: 2 from PC Games Hardware, one from 3D Concept and one from AnandTech.

So here are some benchmark results of Max Payne made with actual graphic cards in the style of last weeks Red Faction Benchmarks. I used the "Shooting Alex" Demo of 3D Concept because it´s indoor scene is more graphic card than CPU loaded.

  • GeForce 3 64MB - driver: NVIDIA v12.90
  • GeForce 2 Ultra 64MB - driver: NVIDIA v12.90
  • GeForce 2 Pro 64MB - driver: NVIDIA v12.90
  • GeForce 2 GTS 32MB - driver: NVIDIA v12.90
  • Kyro II 64MB (3D Prophet 4500) - driver: PowerVR v7.114
  • ATI RADEON 64MB DDR - driver: v4.13.7115

Testsystems:

  • Pentium 4 1500MHz, Intel GB850, 256MB RAM, W98SE
  • Athlon 1200C, ABIT KT7A RAID, 256MB CL2, W98SE

You should go to 3D Center to get the mod and see how to use it.

Benchmarks - Level: 3D Concept Shooting Alex (Standard HQ Settings, No Sound)

800x600-16: GeForce3, GF2 Pro und Ultra are close together. The GTS is clear behind the 64MB GF2 cards but clear in front of the RADEON DDR 64. The ATI card suffers on its known 16Bit weakness. PowerVR´s is pretty close to it. The slowest card is the MX400. Most cards perform better on the Athlon system!

1024x768-16: GF3 und GF2 Ultra are still close together. PRO falls behind, followed by GTS and RADEON. Kyro II and MX400 perform almost the same.

1280x1024-16: GF3 leads the pack. All others fall behind more and more. Kyro II and MX400 again show almost the same results. A surprise is the bad RADEON value on the Athlon system! Bios modifications on the KT133A mainboard (Aperture size etc) did not help to get the ATI card on the P4 level. That makes me wonder because the numbers are almost identical at 800x600 and 1024x768.

Now let´s go on with 32Bit colors.
