Seven Stories: MX400 Boards Compared (2/18)

Due to NVIDIA’s strict specifications and production criteria, the boards all look fairly similar at first glance. A closer look reveals major differences in feature set and overclockability, however. For this comparison I have done my best to test as broad a selection of MX cards as possible, if just to show the overwhelming multitude of options available in the MX segment. Those cards would be:

The MX400’s main competitors are the Kyro II and the RADEON VE. Yet due to recent price drops, even the GeForce 2 GTS and the RADEON DDR can be found for a price close to that of a fairly feature-complete MX400. Besides, an MX board with 64MB RAM is a bit of a contradiction in itself, considering that the memory bus is the bottleneck in the first place – as the our test results prove. But first, let’s take a more detailed look at each of the cards:
