ATi RADEON - The Empire strikes back (9/15)

Benchmarks - Drakan

Drakan is a Direct 3D based game that taxes the CPU just as much as the videocard, if not more. From the following results we can draw the conclusion that the RADEON’s drivers aren’t quite as tweaked as they could be.

DRAKAN - Intel P3 866E - ASUS CUSL2 - I815

The RADEON places last in our Drakan benchmark. It only manages to pass the V5 5500 at 1280x1024 – 32. The GF2 boards come away victorious in all resolutions.

DRAKAN - AMD Athlon 700 - TEKRAM KX7-A - KX133

The RADEON’s 3DNow! advantage that we saw in Descent 3 doesn’t resurface here, so the board scores just behind the GeForce2 and the Voodoo5.

DRAKAN - Intel P3 1GHz - ASUS P3B-F - I440BX

Higher clockspeed means higher scores for all the cards. Yet the RADEON doesn’t seem to benefit as greatly as the other cards.

Is this due to the early stage of the RADEON’s drivers? Hard to say. Whatever the answer may be, the Drakan is definitely not the RADEON’s favorite game. ATi’s driver team should have check this out and do something about it.
