Titanium Series

Titanium is the fourth most common metal on this planet. Titanium alloys are characterised by the following: They are used in situations that require uncompromising performance and durability. And - they are anything but cheap. Both these characteristics also fit the GeForce 3 to a "t", or should we say "Ti"?

Seriously, though - what NVIDIA was thinking when the company came up with the name is beyond me. Consider: Apple also carries a "Titanium" line of notebooks. Nonetheless, the entire line of revamped cards has been given this name. Here’s a list of what’s new:

  • NVIDIA GeForce 2 Ti: The successor of the GeForce 2 GTS/PRO is a simple die-shrink from 0.18 to 0.15µm. It is clocked at 250/400MHz
  • NVIDIA GeForce 3 Ti200: The succesor to the MX line and the equivalent of a GeForce 3 light. Clockspeed: 175/400MHz
  • NVIDIA GeForce 3 Ti500: This card is the follow-up to the GeForce 3 and is NVIDIA’s new top-of-the line model. Prices will stay on a level with those of the GeForce 3. Clockspeed: 240/500MHz

All chips are manufactured on a 0.15 micron process. Aside from the information found in the following table, only very little is known about the "smaller" models. The only test samples NVIDIA has supplied so far are Ti500s.
