Report: DVD on your TV with a PC Tips for TV-Out (5/9) NVIDIA cards with Brooktree / Conexant Bt869KRF (Hercules, Creative, Leadtek, ...) The situation with Brooktree / Conexant Bt869 (Homepage) based TV-Out encoder chips is similar with Chrontel. NVIDIA's reference driver - and consequently 98% of the manufacturers' drivers don't offer any overscan and DualView options in their shipping form. Again, this can be remedied with a tool available on the 'net, called simply TV-Tool. Unlike TVCC 2000, this is shareware, though. The trial version allows you to watch 10 minutes of video before shutting down automatically. The developers premier reason to make this program shareware is basically time. The development of his tool eventually became so time intensive that he'd originally planned to stop development altogether, but decided instead to compensate by asking for a contribution instead. In my opinion the 10$ aren't too much to ask. Besides, they're a good investment as the functionality offered is well worth the money.
As with the Brooktree chip cards, DualView mode is dependent upon the monitors ability to work at 50Hz, in sync with the TV. If in doubt, you'll just have to try and see if it works TV-Tool also let's you zoom in on selected areas of the screen. An inability it shares with TVCC is its lack of support for TV-Out modes other than 640x480 and 800x600. Conclusion: Once you throw a tool like TV-Tool into the mix, the boards featuring the Bt869KRF are also quite usable for DVD viewing. At least this tool's author received some help from Hercules in the past. Cards using Bt869KRF: Creative: some Annihilator / 3D Blaster
cards Beware: Many GeForce 2 MX TwinView boards also use the Conexant chip for TV-Out. TV-Tool will not work with these boards in all cases! (See GeForce 2MX) |
