Unreal Tournament - DirectX 7 game

Unreal Tournament’s 3D engine relies mostly on the CPU and memory performance of a system. The video card is only of secondary importance. The game does not support T&L in hardware.

The GeForce 3 takes first place under Windows 98, the GeForce 2 Ultra claims that spot under Windows 2000. Overall, these results fall well within the margin of error, especially considering that timedemos in UT are never 100% the same (a "fragged" opponent doesn’t always look in the same direction, etc.). We do see the MX400 take a performance hit in Windows 2000 though.

On the Pentium 4 system the GeForce 3 was definitely faster in Windows 98. The GeForce 2 Ultra and MX 400 also show this tendency, although it isn’t quite as pronounced. The performance drop of the MX400 in Windows 2000 wasn’t reproducible on the Pentium 4 system. This looks like it may be the result of some irregularity or error while testing the card on the Athlon system.

The differences between the operating systems are marginal in UT and therefor have no impact on everyday gaming.
